After a late-night embarrassment, Joe Rogan claims that people believe CNN is "full of s***."
Rogan stated that the world has become so unpredictable that the idea of CNN being impartial is considered a joke by its viewers.
On Wednesday, CNN was labeled as "full of s---" by podcast host Joe Rogan after a late night TV line about the network's unbiased reporting was misinterpreted as a joke, causing laughter from the live audience.
In the latest episode of "The Joe Rogan Podcast," comedian Adam Ray and host Joe Rogan discussed Stephen Colbert's off-the-cuff remark about CNN being "objective" during his interview with network anchor Kaitlan Collins Monday night. Despite Colbert stating that it was not meant as a joke, the audience erupted in laughter.
Before playing the clip, Rogan instructed his producer to begin from the beginning and use a big screen because the content was so unbelievable.
The top podcaster stated that the audience's response to the idea of CNN being "objective" reveals how "crazy the world has become."
"Wow, that's insane! The audience is like, 'shut up.' That's hilarious. They thought he was joking. They thought that was a joke. This world has gotten so crazy that people think CNN being unbiased is a joke. That's insane," he said.
CNN has deviated so much from "unbiased" journalism, and Rogan criticized the network's management for prioritizing profits over journalistic integrity.
What did you achieve by running your business in that manner? Your actions have tarnished your business's reputation, as people now view you as untrustworthy and dishonest. If you had simply reported the facts without embellishment, you could have maintained your credibility and likely avoided any negative consequences.
"You wouldn't have earned as much money if you didn't advertise," he joked.
On the late-night comedy show, Collins discussed her role in covering President Biden's decision to drop out of the 2024 race, the media's relationship with former President Trump, and how Vice President Harris had shaken up the 2024 race.
In a lead-up to a question, Colbert commended Collins' news organization for being objective and reporting the news truthfully.
"No, no no —" Colbert objected while waving his hand and grinning at the unexpected reaction. "CNN makes a big mistake," he trailed off.
"Was that supposed to be a laugh line?" Collins replied.
Colbert joked, "It wasn't supposed to be, but I guess it is," before quickly shifting to his question. The interaction was widely shared on social media.
During the Trump presidency, CNN gained a reputation as a partisan news organization due to its anti-Trump tone in primetime programming. Trump frequently referred to CNN as "fake news" due to the combative behavior of then-White House reporter Jim Acosta towards members of the administration.
In 2022, TV producer Chris Licht, who was previously the executive producer of Colbert's show, took over the network and made it clear that he wanted to reduce the left-leaning opinion programming that had dominated the network under his predecessor, Jeff Zucker. He reached out to Republicans who had been turned off by the network's past coverage and let go of some of its well-known liberal anchors and reporters. Despite this, Zucker-era staffers remained throughout the company.
In 2023, Licht was let go from the network due to a loss of faith among its liberal staff.
In recent months, Jeffrey Toobin, Don Lemon, and Brian Stelter have appeared on the network despite being ousted under Licht's leadership.
