Adam Schiff: "I share the blame for Harris loss; the entire Democratic Party is responsible"
Schiff stated that the entire Democratic Party, including himself and the former president, bears responsibility for the current state of affairs.
California Senator-elect Adam Schiff stated that the "entire Democratic Party" is responsible for Vice President Kamala Harris' election defeat, as party leaders persist in placing blame on one another for their massive losses in November.
On "Meet the Press" Sunday, host Kristen Welker aired a clip from a month before Election Day where Schiff predicted that Harris would win "overwhelmingly."
Schiff stated that he believes Biden's decision to step aside and pass the torch was the correct choice, as it gave them a chance to win, although it was not a guarantee. He also expressed his belief that Biden could have won the election, particularly in the battleground states.
According to Schiff, President-elect Trump's victory can be attributed to an "anti-incumbent wave" in the U.S. that affected both progressives and conservatives, causing our party to be associated with the status quo.
"The principal issue is the economy, which has become increasingly challenging for people working full-time to make a living. Until we address this issue, the presidency may be easier to obtain but keeping it may be more difficult."
Schiff was questioned by Welker about his agreement with former House Speaker Pelosi's statement that President Biden was responsible for the party's election loss due to his failure to withdraw from the race earlier.
Schiff shifted the conversation, asserting that it is the Democrats' responsibility to convince the public that they still align with their interests, as many no longer feel represented by the party.
Senator-elect, do you think President Biden is responsible for staying in office for too long?
Schiff responded, "I believe the entire Democratic Party is responsible."
"The former president and I, included, successfully campaigned. We must present a bold vision for the economy, ensuring it benefits all Americans. The challenge lies in proving that hard work in America still leads to a good living, which many doubt."
The days following Trump's victory, Democrats have been casting blame on different factions of the party for Harris' loss. Some have blamed Biden for staying in the race too long, while others said Harris was responsible for hiding Biden's mental decline. Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders has attributed the loss to the Democratic Party for abandoning the working class.
The loss of the 2020 presidential election was attributed to various reasons by different sources. Some Democrats and insiders pointed to former President Barack Obama for the loss, after Obama reportedly worked in the background over the summer to encourage Biden's ouster from the race. Some media pundits blamed the Democratic Party's shift away from blue-collar, middle class voters for the loss with others warning that the party's embrace of "woke" progressive ideologies likely cost them the election.
