ABC hosts come under fire from Trump, who threatens to withdraw from debate.
'I desire a fair debate and, as you know, they may pose challenging questions to me.'
On September 10, former President Trump suggested that he may withdraw from the scheduled debate against Vice President Kamala Harris, which was to be aired on ABC News, following his viewing of the network's Sunday shows.
During a campaign stop in Falls Church, Virginia on Monday, Trump labeled ABC as "the most unfair network" and suggested they should be excluded. He also stated that he believed CNN was fair during the first debate with President Biden.
"Trump stated that ABC is the worst network, with George Slopadopalous and other personalities being particularly poor."
Trump raised the issue of the debate rules, specifically the cutting off of microphones for candidates who have finished speaking, during the campaign spat between him and Harris.
ABC News and George Stephanopoulos are being sued for defamation by former President Trump, who claims that the host falsely stated on air that he was "found liable for rape" during a March 10 interview with Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C.
"The ABC Chief Washington Correspondent, Jonathan Karl, is a lightweight, according to him. He was interviewing Tom Cotton, who was fantastic, and only a total pro could have handled that interview."
"I observed the group discussing vanilla ice cream with Biden and then witnessed how they attacked Tom Cotton. When Jonathan Karl, who is terrible, was mentioned, the speaker said he was just an average person. However, he added that they control him."
On "This Week," he slammed the round table from Sunday, which featured Donna Brazile, the former interim chair of the Democratic National Committee, whom he accused of giving Hillary Clinton topics for a town hall ahead of time during the 2016 campaign.
In 2017, Brazile wrote in an essay for Time magazine that she discussed potential topics for a CNN town hall with the Hillary Clinton campaign while serving as the DNC vice chair. As a result, CNN dropped Brazile as a contributor.
Dana Walden, a senior Disney executive who oversees ABC News, is one of Kamala Harris' closest friends. Walden and Harris have been friends since 1994, while their husbands, Matt Walden and Doug Emhoff, have known each other since the 1980s.
Trump questioned why he agreed to a debate with ABC after observing the "hostility" during the weekend.
"I want to do it with another network. He said, 'You know, I won because of debates, ask Biden.'"
"He added, "I want a fair debate and they can ask me tough questions. I don't mind. I've heard them all from you, I hear them every day. But, I think it's unfair, the single worst network for unfairness. I think it's worse than CNN, worse than NBC, which is really hard to believe, and CBS is probably the best of the group.""
The primetime debate on the network will be held on Sept. 10 and will be moderated by ABC anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis.
