ABC host challenges Kamala Harris ally on VP's false claim about active US troops: "What was the reasoning behind that statement?"
Martha Raddatz of ABC refuted Harris' assertion about the active duty military troops.
During the ABC debate on Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris made a false claim, and ABC News' Martha Raddatz asked Gov. Maura Healey, D-Mass., why she would say that.
During the debate, Harris stated that for the first time this century, there is no active-duty member of the United States military deployed in a combat zone in any war zone globally.
On Tuesday, ABC News' David Muir and Linsey Davis hosted the first presidential debate between Harris and Trump. Despite fact-checking Trump several times, they did not verify any of Harris' statements.
"During the interview on Sunday, Raddatz stated that the information provided was false. According to Raddatz, there are currently 900 U.S. military personnel in Syria and 2,500 U.S. troops in Iraq. These troops have been under regular threat from drones and missiles for months. Additionally, there is action in the Red Sea. Every single day, Navy SEALs and Delta Forces special operators can be part of any sort of deadly raid."
Healey stated that what is crucial in this situation, Martha, is that Kamala Harris, unlike Donald Trump, proved herself to be a competent leader. Given the numerous conflicts in the world, it is even more imperative that we have someone who is dedicated and supports the military.
Raddatz jumped in again and repeated what Harris had said.
Raddatz questioned whether the commander in chief had knowledge of the people in Syria and Iraq, despite her claim to have demonstrated her ability to lead.
Healey argued that Donald Trump "stands with Vladimir Putin."
Kamala Harris respects our military and service members, while Donald Trump disrespects them, according to Healey.
Was Healey asked if Harris should establish clear boundaries on the abortion restrictions she would support?
""Martha already did what she said, 'let's go back to Roe,'" Healey said."
In a post-debate interview, ABC's Davis confessed that her fact-checking of Trump was impacted by the CNN debate that occurred in June and negatively affected President Biden.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Davis stated that there were concerns about statements being allowed to remain unchallenged by candidate Biden or the moderators during the debate.
