A member of the squad shares a message on Thanksgiving criticizing Israel for the displacement of indigenous people from their land.
Rashida Tlaib posted: "We stand in solidarity with all Indigenous people fighting for freedom on their own land, from here to Palestine."
Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., a member of the far-left group "The Squad" in Congress, used Thanksgiving to criticize Israel.
""This Thanksgiving, we remember the Indigenous people who were killed by European settlers and the United States to steal their land, and we stand in solidarity with them as they fight for freedom on their own land," the Instagram post, which was credited to a pro-Palestinian organization, read."
In November 2023, the House of Representatives censured Tlaib, a Muslim Palestinian American, for her long history of attacking the Jewish state.
Last month, she accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of being a "genocidal maniac" and stated that he is responsible for "burning Palestinians alive, bombing hospitals, starving people, and killing aid workers."
In the lead up to the 2024 presidential election, Tlaib urged Michiganders to get out and vote without endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris. She has been heavily critical of the Biden-Harris administration's handling of the Israel-Hamas War in Gaza.
On Thursday, Tlaib expressed gratitude for the residents of the 12th district who elected her to Congress and inspired her to fight for justice. She also paid tribute to Indigenous communities, including the Peoria, Anishinabewaki, Bodwéwadmi, Myaamia, Meškwahki·aša·hina, Wyandot, Peoria, and Mississauga peoples whose land they are on.
Several liberal figures urged conservatives and supporters of President-elect Donald Trump to express gratitude to illegal immigrants on Thanksgiving, by acknowledging the migrants who harvested and packed the food they enjoyed on Thursday.
One meme circulated on X depicted a pilgrim receiving a roasted turkey from a Native American with the caption, "Thanksgiving: Celebrating the day Europeans were fed by undocumented immigrants in America."
