A former Aurora resident who was forced to flee gang violence says she will vote Republican in the future.
Cindy Romero states that the backing of individuals such as former President Trump has been "transformative."
An Aurora, Colorado woman who escaped her apartment following a spike in violence linked to international gangs is casting her first Republican vote this election year.
"Cindy Romero, who spoke to Planet Chronicle Digital, stated that she will consistently vote Republican down ballot until a solution is found to the issue. She expressed her concern for her children's safety, stating that she does not want them to become the next victims of the problem."
For approximately four years, Romero and her spouse resided in an apartment in Aurora, Colorado. During this period, they observed a rise in criminal activity and violence.
A group of armed men suspected to be linked with the Tren de Aragua gang broke into a neighbor's house, as recorded by the couple's security cameras. Several shootouts took place at the complex, Romero stated. One of these shootouts resulted in a bullet striking her car. According to her, the police rarely responded to her 911 calls.
Danielle Jurinsky, a member of the Aurora City Council, assisted the Romeros in relocating from the building in August. Although they now reside approximately 30 minutes away, Romero remains concerned about the potential impact of gang activity on their family and friends still living in Aurora.
""This invasion of criminals with guns can't be allowed to continue, even though there are many migrants who are here legally and trying to do the right thing," Romero stated."
Romero's story attracted the attention of former President Trump's 2024 campaign, and she appeared on stage at the Republican presidential nominee's rally in Aurora earlier this month.
Trump invited Romero, a lifelong Democrat, to the podium, stating that he was probably braver than he was.
Romero declared to the crowd, "It is imperative that we bring Trump back into office and accomplish this task."
Standing next to the former president was a surreal experience for Romero.
"Romero told Planet Chronicle Digital that he hasn't been treated well by the people he reached out to for help. He said he reached out to those he thought would help him because he's a lifelong Democrat, but instead, he received pushback and was called a liar."
The Denver area has been minimized or denied by both the government and the media as having a presence of Venezuelan gangs, according to Romero.
"I didn't realize the significant difference in reporting between left-leaning and center-right media. Left-leaning media has dismissed the issue, minimized its impact, and claimed it was an isolated incident."
Romero stated that she has been "embraced" by the right and conservative-leaning individuals.
"Meeting with Mr. Trump was a dream come true for me because no one believed me," she said. "So far, only they have acknowledged my situation and supported me. It's a huge relief and a turning point in my life."
