'A co-host of 'The View' proposes visiting Mar-a-Lago to encounter Trump as if it were a pilgrimage to Mecca.'
Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro raised concerns about meetings happening at the president-elect's Florida residence.
"Ana Navarro, a co-host on "The View," proposed on Monday that lawmakers visiting President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago before his inauguration was similar to making a pilgrimage to Mecca to meet a prophet."
The Washington Examiner reported that Trump was impressed with Fetterman after their meeting at the Florida residence, stating that he found the senator to be "fascinating."
Navarro was hesitant about the visit, as he saw it as "like going down to Mar-a-Lago because it's become like a little palace for Donald Trump, and it's like trekking down to Mecca to see the prophet. I don't like that. I don't, and it feels like he's yucking it up, but this used to be normal."
Sunny Hostin concurred, "I disapprove of the appearance of traveling to Mar-a-Lago and publicly embracing the president's ring. Trump should have already been in Washington, transitioning with his team, but he has refused to sign the GSA agreement and insists on following his own ethical plan. I find this objectionable."
Both hosts commended Fetterman for his political acumen and agreed that he was correct in meeting with Trump. Navarro later stated that it was customary for Democrats and Republicans to establish connections, but argued that Trump was an exception.
"Donald Trump's abnormal behavior has changed what was once normal, and John Fetterman's criticism of him is right, but I hope he doesn't stop calling out his abuses of power," Navarro said.
The co-hosts shared the same frustration as Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough after meeting with the president-elect at his Mar-a-Lago home, and were accused of bending the knee to Trump.
Fetterman was praised by co-hosts Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin for being an objective politician after meeting with Trump.
Trump's cabinet nominees have also expressed openness to meeting and having conversations with Fetterman.
Fetterman stated in a December post on X that he believes it is appropriate and the responsibility of a U.S. Senator to have conversations with President-elect Trump's nominees. He met with Elise Stefanik, Pete Hegseth, and Tulsi Gabbard, and is looking forward to meeting with others soon.
"After having a conversation with them, my votes will be based on an open-minded and informed opinion. This is not a controversial statement; it is my duty," he stated.
