David Plouffe, senior adviser to the Harris campaign, stated that the loss of Vice President Kamala Harris to President-elect Donald Trump was due to electoral weaknesses in key battleground states.

Plouffe stated in a podcast on Tuesday that it's difficult for Democrats to win in battleground states.

Harris was discussed on a podcast with Jen O'Malley, former campaign chair of Harris, and other Democratic Party strategists, regarding the reasons for her failure to defeat Trump.

Prior to the election, Plouffe analyzed the electoral situation in each battleground state.

"Despite the difficult political climate, the fact that the race ended in a tie was a positive outcome, but it was a slow process."

"Pennsylvania has 25% liberal electorate and 34% conservative electorate. In most battleground states, the conservative number is over 40. Therefore, in Pennsylvania, Trump won conservatives 91-8, Harris won liberals 93-6. Moderates, Harris won 56-43. To win the election, one must win at least 60% of moderates."

"To win battleground states, Democrats must not make a false choice between maximizing their base and spending time and resources, according to Plouffe. While they hit their turnout targets in Milwaukee, they fell short in Philly and Detroit, which is part of the equation."

Plouffe stated that Democrats must secure the moderate vote in order to succeed in national elections and overcome challenges as a party.

"The math just doesn't work," Plouffe said.

"The political atmosphere was intense as it was a close race."
