A brave police officer rescued a child who was choking on candy: He was 'purple'.

Last Monday, a police officer from El Monte, California intervened to rescue a young boy who was choking severely.

After being notified that an 8-year-old child had choked on a piece of candy and become unconscious, Raul Vega was the first officer to arrive at the scene.

Vanessa Becerra-Aguayo expresses her gratitude towards the police for responding to her son Ethan's medical emergency, as she and neighbors were attempting to resuscitate him.

"She remembered how she saw him unconscious and purple, and she and her neighbors tried to perform CPR on him, but nothing seemed to work."

When Vega arrived on the scene, he noticed that the young boy was "unresponsive." Recognizing the urgency of the situation, he promptly pulled out his LifeVac, a portable airway clearance device suitable for use on both adults and children.

"Vega explained that the device is an anti-choking rescue tool that functions like a foam plunger. It is placed over the person's mouth and pressed to create suction, which dislodges the object and opens the airway."

Ethan choked on the candy and was rushed to the ambulance.

Vega had great partners with him while responding to the incident. Ethan's mother is overjoyed despite being still shaken over the incident.

"As soon as I heard another dad say my son wasn't breathing, I lost it," his mother told Planet Chronicle. "When I saw them pull out the candy and he was okay, I felt some relief, but I was still worried about him coming back to himself."
