A 5-year-old child was attacked by a mountain lion while picnicking with their family at a Southern California park.
Before being euthanized via firearm, the mountain lion was considered a danger to the public.
A five-year-old boy was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after a mountain lion attack in Southern California over the weekend. The big cat was euthanized by California state rangers, according to officials on Tuesday. The attack occurred at Malibu Creek State Park, which is west of Los Angeles, according to a statement from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The boy was part of a group picnicking with friends and family from Woodland Hills.
The boy was airlifted to Northridge Hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries and released early Monday morning, according to officials. The mountain lion was euthanized with a firearm while remaining in the same tree, as rangers deemed it a threat to the public. Big cats rarely attack humans, officials said. One man was killed and another seriously injured in Northern California after a mountain lion attacked them. The two brothers had tried to scare the big cat away before it attacked. Officials are grateful that the family is safe and the child is recovering, with no other injuries reported.
