It's next man up time for Notre Dame.
On Thursday in the Orange Bowl, the Fighting Irish brought in a substitute quarterback as they were behind.
The Fighting Irish's starting quarterback, Riley Leonard, exited the College Football Playoff semifinal in the first half and is currently being assessed by the medical staff.
With about two minutes remaining in the half, Leonard entered the medical tent on Notre Dame's sideline after being hit by Penn State's Zane Durant and Dvon J-Thomas during a play.
Notre Dame cut Penn State's lead to 10-3 after Steve Angeli replaced Leonard, and it was not immediately clear what Leonard's injury status was.
Leonard completed six out of 11 passes for 63 yards and an interception before getting injured.
Angeli, a native of Westfield, New Jersey, played high school football at Bergen Catholic High School. He made his first collegiate start in the 2023 Sun Bowl, where he threw for 232 yards and three touchdowns in a 40-8 win over Oregon State.
