During the playoff game, the Los Angeles Fire Department received support from the Rams players and coaches.
In Los Angeles, utter devastation has been caused by wildfires.
The Los Angeles Rams players and coaches demonstrated their support for the Los Angeles Fire Department on Monday night during their playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings.
The players and coaches donned "LAFD" T-shirts and hats before the wild-card game.
The Rams and Vikings' game, originally scheduled at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, was relocated to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, due to wildfires in the city.
On Sunday, the Rams players were forced to evacuate their homes as the game was relocated. The team held practice on Friday and moved traveling to Arizona. On Saturday, the team had practice at the Cardinals’ facility and then settled in their hotels without family.
Emergency officials, including firefighters, worked tirelessly to control the fires that resulted in over 25 fatalities during the week. Officials cautioned that the danger was not over as high winds were forecasted to return to the area.
Before the game, Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner, discussed the relocation of the game in an interview with ESPN.
He stated that the devastation, loss, and heartache experienced by the people in Los Angeles were felt by everyone, and they knew the game couldn't be played there by Thursday. Public safety and compromising it were not options, and they wanted to ensure that the first responders' focus was on taking care of those struggling out there.
"The league came together when we made that decision. We had contingency plans that included two stadiums every week, and the location for the Los Angeles Rams' fans was perfect. 45,000 fans made the trip over here, which was extraordinary. Michael Bidwell and the Cardinals were at the top of the list."
The Los Angeles Chargers demonstrated support for the Los Angeles Fire Department while playing the Houston Texans away in the playoffs.
