Dolphins' Tyreek Hill did not request a trade during meeting with team brass and GM, according to report.
The Jets game on Sunday was ended early by Hill's departure.
Miami Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill expressed his readiness to move on after Sunday's loss to the New York Jets, but general manager Chris Grier stated that he was not ready to leave the team the next day.
Grier spoke to the media on Tuesday about Hill's comments, stating that he and McDaniel met with the veteran wideout on Monday to discuss his postgame remarks and the fact that he seemed to leave the game early.
Yesterday, Mike and I had productive conversations with Tyreek here, and I will keep those discussions private, as per the team's transcript.
"In a frustrating season, he was very emotional during a game where we had a chance to come back from 2-6. I am most proud of the players and Mike and the coaching staff for playing Week 18 to potentially sneak into the playoffs, despite being 2-6. This was especially impressive given that he played through his injury. Our conversations, which we will keep private, were productive and contributed to this achievement."
Grier stated that although Hill did not retract his remarks, he did not explicitly ask for a trade.
"But he never asked for a trade with me, I would say no."
The Dolphins' slim chances of making the playoffs were eliminated by a 30-22 loss to the already-eliminated Jets on Sunday. Hill was not available in the fourth quarter and after the game, he indicated that he was ready to move on.
I haven't been in the playoffs before, but I'm going to do what's best for me and my family, wherever that may be. I'm opening the door for myself.
"I'm out, bro. Although it was fun playing here, I have to prioritize my career. I'm too competitive to just sit back."
McDaniel mirrored Grier's viewpoint on Monday's meeting and disclosed to Hill that he had made the choice to withdraw from the game prematurely.
"I was straightforward with him, and he was truthful. We had a productive conversation, covering a range of topics, including the firm stance that leaving games is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in the future, and he took responsibility for his actions."
McDaniel stated that their relationship did not require fixing, but rather clearing the air in a tumultuous situation.
