Aaron Rodgers believes it is "absurd" to believe he has more to prove, despite hoping to return to the Jets next year.
If Rodgers lands elsewhere in 2025, he won't be upset.
The New York Jets entered the 2024 season with considerably high expectations.
In the 2024 NFL season, the Jets entered Week 14 with just three wins after star quarterback Aaron Rodgers went down to injury in the season opener and recovered, only to suffer another injury in the first week of the regular season.
Despite not meeting expectations, Rodgers still desires to continue playing for the Jets next season. He refuted any speculation that he must achieve a specific level of performance to secure his spot on the team in 2025.
"Rodgers responded to the idea that he needed to prove something to the Jets brass by saying, "That is ridiculous, with all due respect." He added, "If they want me to stay, fantastic. If it takes these five games, maybe they don't know what I bring to the table. That being said, I'd love to play really friggin well the last five games.""
Although Rodgers expressed his hope that his relationship with the Jets will continue beyond 2025, he acknowledged that he wouldn't be upset if the team decided to move on.
I recently renovated my home in Jersey with the intention of staying for a few more years. My objective was to perform well and feel appreciated. If I am not invited back, I will not be offended or upset.
If the Jets' interest is not mutual, Rodgers will weigh his options.
Rodgers stated that he would consider other possibilities, but he would first contemplate whether he wanted to play or not.
This season, Rodgers has thrown 19 touchdowns against eight interceptions in 12 games, and he has not completed any game with 300 or more passing yards.
The Dolphins host the Jets on Sunday.
