Trump-backed candidate Jimmy Patronis receives endorsement from House GOP leaders for Matt Gaetz's former seat.
After winning re-election last month, Matt Gaetz left his seat.
Florida Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis has been endorsed by House Republican leaders for election in the Sunshine State's 1st Congressional District.
The candidate has the support of House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn.
Thanking each of the House GOP figures, Patronis shared the endorsements on social media.
In the previous month, Patronis was encouraged by President-elect Donald Trump to run for office, with a promise of endorsement.
Trump endorsed Jimmy Patronis for the Race with his complete and total support, urging him to run.
Next year, special and general elections will be held to fill the seat left vacant by Matt Gaetz, who resigned from Congress after being nominated by Trump to serve as attorney general.
Prior to leaving office, Gaetz, who had just been re-elected, withdrew himself from consideration for the Cabinet-level post.
But Gaetz is not the only Trump nominee who has bowed out.
Chad Chronister, the Hillsborough County Sheriff who was recently nominated by Trump to lead the Drug Enforcement Administration, withdrew from the position.
