Pete Hegseth intensifies Pentagon lobbying with consecutive meetings on Capitol Hill.
Trump encouraged Hegseth to continue his efforts, according to the latter.
Pete Hegseth, Donald Trump's Secretary of Defense nominee, is intensifying his efforts to lead the Pentagon through consecutive meetings on Capitol Hill.
In an attempt to secure their backing before his confirmation hearing next year, Hegseth has been holding private meetings with senators in Washington, D.C. since his nomination.
On Wednesday, Hegseth met with incoming Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and later with incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., for a second day on the Hill.
Since being appointed to a top administration position, the nominee has been accused of multiple instances of drinking and sexual misconduct, which he has consistently denied.
According to multiple sources, Trump is reportedly considering nominating Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as Defense secretary to replace Hegseth, who is facing allegations.
Trump reportedly advised Hegseth to continue his efforts on Wednesday morning.
""I am a fighter and I am here to support war fighters," Hegseth stated."
Hegseth added that he would be "meeting all day with senators."
