Biden seems to close his eyes during the African summit in Angola.
During a roundtable summit with African leaders, Biden leaned back and placed his hand on his forehead.
During a summit with African leaders in Lobito, Angola, President Biden was seen closing his eyes in a moment that was recorded on video.
The president, who is 82 years old, can be seen resting his head and closing his eyes while Tazania's Vice President Philip Mpango spoke.
Biden's eyes were closed for over a minute, but he was alert and gave remarks before and after the brief period.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Several observers on social media said it looked like the president fell asleep.
"Clay Travis of Outkick posted on X that Joe Biden fell asleep during a meeting with African leaders today. Despite this, Travis praised Biden's sharpness and suggested that the trip was intentional. Travis found it strange that an 82-year-old would be sent on a three-day trip to Africa."
Jake Schneider, the rapid response director for President-elect Trump's campaign, joked, "Biden dozes off during his own meeting in Africa. Who's in charge?"
The United States was criticized as "embarrassing" by Denver-based radio host Ross Kaminsky and others.
Kamisnky remarked on X that it's amazing how our adversaries haven't taken advantage of our lack of a president to challenge us more.
On Tuesday, Biden declared $1 billion in humanitarian aid to assist Africans affected by prolonged droughts and food scarcity.
The United States remains the world's largest provider of humanitarian aid and development assistance. Biden announced $1 billion in new humanitarian support for Africans displaced by droughts and food insecurity. African leaders and citizens seek more than just aid; they seek investment.
This week, Biden's visit to Angola signifies his first trip to Africa as president, coinciding with the ongoing struggles faced by North Carolina residents following Hurricane Helene's devastation in late September.
