Trump retains Whatley on Republican National Committee after "OUTSTANDING and HISTORIC JOB."
The RNC will continue to prioritize getting out the vote, protecting the ballot, and raising the necessary funds.
On Wednesday, President-elect Trump invited Michael Whatley, the Republican National Committee chair, to continue leading the GOP's national party committee.
Whatley quickly accepted the opportunity to continue as Chairman of the RNC and work tirelessly to help President Trump Make America Great Again.
The Republican president, who won the White House and flipped the Senate while maintaining a slim House majority, praised Whatley's "OUTSTANDING and HISTORIC" performance as RNC chair.
Trump announced that he has appointed Michael as the Chairman of the RNC to continue building the party and be a trusted partner in making America great again, while ensuring free and fair elections.
In March, Trump appointed Whatley to succeed McDaniel as RNC chair after he secured the 2024 GOP presidential nomination. Whatley, a longtime ally of the former president and a major supporter of his election integrity efforts, had previously served as RNC general counsel and chair of the North Carolina Republican Party. Additionally, Trump named his daughter-in-law Lara Trump as RNC co-chair.
In 2016, Trump appointed McDaniel to lead the national party committee, making her the longest serving chair in recent history. However, this year, Trump pressured McDaniel to resign due to poor party fundraising and his opposition to the RNC's presidential primary debates.
Trump praised Whatley for his work in protecting the vote and delivering the necessary votes in battleground states through an unprecedented election integrity operation and a get-out-the-vote campaign.
He contended that "Michael and Lara transformed the RNC into a streamlined, focused, and powerful organization that will drive the America First Agenda for years to come."
Trump, with his unwavering control over the GOP, urged Republicans to support [Whatley] in his ongoing mission at the RNC.
Trump thanked Whatley for continuing their important work at the GOP.
The RNC's priorities will remain the same as long as I am Chairman, which include getting out the vote, protecting the ballot, and raising the money needed to elect Republicans up and down the ticket, he pledged.
Whatley emphasized the "vital battles to come," including "backing President Trump's cabinet picks and readying for the 2026 midterms, as well as our ongoing struggle for voting fairness nationwide."
Despite not being on the ballot, Trump outperformed many down-ballot Republicans in key Senate and House races in the last month's elections. The RNC must now work to maintain Trump voters' support for the party's candidates.
