FBI background checks agreement signed by Trump transition team.
FBI vetting had been advocated for by Senate Republicans.
The FBI has agreed to vet the incoming administration's cabinet nominees, as announced by President-elect Trump's transition team on Tuesday.
Trump's team has agreed to submit names for background checks and security clearances, a process typically done before the election. The FBI will vet each cabinet nominee and handle security clearances, which cannot begin until the agreement is made.
Susie Wiles, incoming White House chief of staff, stated that the agreement with the Department of Justice will enable President Trump and his team to commence implementing the America First Agenda on Day 1, which was widely supported by the nation on Election Day.
Several Republicans in the Senate praised the Tuesday agreement on FBI background checks for the transition team, after initially being apprehensive about the team's unwillingness to face such checks.
"According to Politico, Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., stated, "I believe it's beneficial - it will alleviate some pain for them." He added, "It will provide the public and senators with some reassurance, so I am pleased to hear about it.""
Trump and his supporters have consistently criticized the FBI, both during the campaign and after the election. Kash Patel, Trump's nominee for FBI director, has been a vocal opponent of the "deep state" and has supported Republican allegations that Democrats have used the FBI as a weapon against them.
Kash excelled in his role as Chief of Staff at the Department of Defense, Deputy Director of National Intelligence, and Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council during my First Term. Additionally, he has tried over 60 jury trials. Trump shared this praise for Kash on Truth Social on Sunday.
The FBI will put an end to the escalating crime problem in America, break apart the criminal gangs of migrants, and put a stop to the nefarious activities of human and drug trafficking across the border. Kash will work under our esteemed Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to restore the values of Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity to the FBI.
The "Nunes Memo," a four-page document released in 2018 by then-Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., exposed the improper use of surveillance by the FBI and the Justice Department in the Russia investigation into Trump.
"If the memo had been accurate initially, when Devin and I and others were spreading the truth, instead of being used as a tool for the left-wing agenda, there would be no need for reassessment, according to Patel. The memo could not have been completed without the help of the mainstream media, who are part of the deep state."
