The Heritage Foundation is filing a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for access to documents containing the terms "Harris" and "border czar."
Democrats have reiterated their assertion that Vice President Kamala Harris never held the position of 'border czar'.
The conservative think tank is requesting that the Department of Homeland Security provide documents that describe Vice President Kamala Harris as "border czar," even though she claims the position never existed.
The Heritage Foundation's Oversight Project and its executive director, Mike Howell, filed a lawsuit Monday in a Washington, D.C., federal court, seeking to obtain "specific documents pertaining to Vice President Kamala Harris's role as 'Border Czar' for the Biden-Harris Administration."
The Heritage Foundation submitted a request for records on July 30, but DHS denied it, stating that the request was too broad and did not identify the specific records being sought. As a result, the plaintiffs were asked to specify the records they were seeking.
Planet Chronicle Digital has reached out to the Harris campaign and Homeland Security.
The Oversight Project posted on X that if she wasn't the border czar, there shouldn't be any. DHS claims that this request is too big a burden for them, among other excuses.
Since announcing her candidacy for president, Harris's immigration record has been a significant topic of discussion.
In March 2021, Biden appointed Harris as the "border czar" to tackle the root causes of mass migration from Central and South America.
GOP attacks on Harris's White House bid have increasingly centered on a specific term.
The term "border czar" was rejected by the Biden administration as an unofficial title for Harris's role, although it was used by her critics and embraced by multiple news organizations until she became the vice president.
This week, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was questioned by Planet Chronicle' Peter Doocy about assertions that Harris never held the position of "border czar."
"Doocy questioned whether Democrats are overly sensitive about the vice president and the border. He wondered if the border would be less of a contentious issue if there was less migration to the border, and if addressing the "root causes" of migration earlier might have helped."
"Jean-Pierre refuted the false portrayal of the vice president as a "border czar," stating that it was not accurate and that independent fact-checkers had also confirmed this."
In July, the House passed a measure condemning Harris's handling of the U.S. southern border, with six Democrats joining all Republicans in voting for it. The final vote was 220-196.
