New House GOP bill prohibits taxpayer dollars from funding illegal immigrant gender surgeries.
Rep. Greg Steube, a prominent ally of former President Donald Trump, is spearheading the STOP WEIRD Act.
A new GOP-led bill in the House aims to prevent federal funds from covering gender reassignment surgery for undocumented immigrants.
On Thursday, Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., presented the STOP WEIRD Act, which is supported by at least five other House Republicans.
Steube stated on Planet Chronicle Digital that Kamala could implement her plan today, or in the unlikely event of a Harris-Walz administration.
"Our veterans, who fight for months and sometimes years to receive the medical care they deserve, deserve better use of taxpayer dollars than funding transition surgeries for illegal immigrants."
The House GOP majority has intensified its examination of Vice President Kamala Harris and her policy proposals since she was named the Democrats' 2024 presidential candidate in July.
In a 2019 ACLU questionnaire, Harris indicated support for federal funds being allocated towards transgender surgeries for detained illegal immigrants and U.S. prisoners.
The then-junior California senator filled it out alongside other 2020 presidential primary hopefuls.
GOP critics have criticized Harris's actions, claiming it contradicts her image as a moderate during her campaign.
During their tense head-to-head on ABC News on Tuesday, former President Donald Trump criticized Vice President Kamala Harris over the questionnaire.
"During the debate, Trump stated that the radical left liberal wants to perform transgender operations on illegal aliens who are imprisoned."
Will you, as President, utilize your executive power to guarantee that transgender and nonbinary individuals who rely on the government for healthcare, including those in prisons and immigration detention, will receive complete gender transition treatment, including any required surgical procedures? If affirmative, what steps will you take to achieve this?
Transgender individuals who depend on the state for care should receive the necessary treatment, including gender transition-related care.
I advocate for policies that guarantee federal prisoners and detainees access to medically necessary gender transition care, including surgical procedures, while incarcerated or detained. Transition treatment is a medical necessity, and I will instruct all federal agencies responsible for providing essential medical care to provide this treatment.
A Harris campaign adviser stated that the Vice President's views have been formed through three years of successful leadership as part of the Biden-Harris administration when questioned about her responses by Planet Chronicle Digital.
The Harris campaign was contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital for comment on the bill.
