According to a report, Tim Walz made an error in his statement about using weapons "in war."
Since being named as Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, Walz's military record has faced intense scrutiny.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential candidate, was caught on tape in a 2018 video discussing his handling of weapons "in war," and a spokesperson for Kamala Harris clarified that he "misspoke."
The Harris campaign spokesperson stated that Governor Walz would never disrespect or belittle any American's service to the country, and in fact, he commended Senator Vance for risking his life for the country. This is the American way.
The Governor misspoke when making the argument for why weapons of war should never be on our streets or in our classrooms. He believes that only military personnel trained to handle these deadly weapons should have access to them, unlike Donald Trump and JD Vance who prioritize the gun lobby over the safety of our children.
The Harris campaign and the campaign of former President Trump have been contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital.
In the 2018 video, Walz talks about gun control and draws on his military experience.
Walz stated in the clip, posted by Harris' campaign on Tuesday, that the weapons of war he carried in war should only be found in that place.
JD Vance, the vice presidential candidate for the Republicans, has criticized Walz's military service, despite Walz having served 24 years in the National Guard and deploying to Vicenza, Italy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2003.
He retired in 2005, several months before the unit deployed to Iraq.
Walz has been accused of "stolen valor" by Vance, a Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq.
""What was the weapon you carried into war, Tim Walz? I find the stolen valor accusations against you troubling. Don't pretend to be something you're not." Vance made this statement at an event in Michigan."
He added, "I'd be ashamed if I were him and lied about my military service like he did."
