The new defense minister of Israel claims that the country has successfully defeated Hezbollah.
Yoav Gallant was removed as Israeli Defense Minister, and Israel Katz was appointed in his place.
On Sunday, Israel's newly appointed minister of defense declared that his country has successfully defeated Hezbollah, with the elimination of Hassan Nasrallah being the pinnacle of their achievement.
On Sept. 27, the Israel Defense Forces carried out an airstrike on the headquarters of the Iran-backed group in southern Beirut, resulting in the death of Nasrallah.
In late February, the Israeli military announced the elimination of Hashem Safieddine, who was predicted to succeed Nasrallah as leader of Hezbollah.
"We must continue to exert pressure to achieve the results of our victory," Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated on Sunday at a ceremony at Israel's foreign ministry.
Katz stated that Israel has learned its lessons and is not interested in interfering in Lebanese internal politics. He added that he hoped an international coalition would seize this opportunity politically and that Lebanon would establish normal relations with Israel.
On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and appointed Moshe Katz as his replacement.
Israel is currently involved in several conflicts, including fighting Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, as well as engaging in long-range exchanges with Iran.
Gallant stated that he and Netanyahu had disagreements on three issues: the conscription of Haredi men into the army, the release of hostages, and the establishment of a commission of inquiry into the intelligence failures prior to the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks.
On Sunday, Israeli forces carried out airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, targeting the same neighborhood where Safieddine was killed last month.
Netanyahu's home was damaged by a drone attack that Hezbollah claimed responsibility for, and they also fired multiple rockets into northern Israel.
