In Syria, 9 Iran-linked militia targets were struck by US forces: "Our message is clear"
The attacks on U.S. personnel prompted the strikes.
On Monday, U.S. forces carried out retaliatory strikes against targets linked to Iran, as announced by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
According to a statement from CENTCOM, the strikes were carried out in response to multiple attacks against American troops.
U.S. CENTCOM forces carried out strikes on nine targets linked to Iranian groups in Syria following attacks on U.S. personnel in the region over the past day.
CENTCOM stated that the strikes will weaken the Iranian-backed groups' capacity to plan and execute attacks on U.S. and Coalition forces in the region, hindering their efforts to combat D-ISIS.
In the press release, Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM commander, stated that the attacks conveyed a "clear" message.
"The military official stated that attacks against U.S. and coalition partners in the region will not be tolerated. They will continue to take every necessary step to protect personnel and coalition partners and respond to reckless attacks."
In response to the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, U.S. bombers arrived in the Middle East on Nov. 3 to support Israel.
Last week, the 5th Bomb Wing of Minot Air Force Base's B-52 Stratofortress strategic bombers arrived in the region, but the location of the weapons was not disclosed by CENTCOM.
An Iranian official was accused of trying to kill President-elect Trump, but the Iranian government has rejected the accusations.
"The Justice Department has charged an Iranian regime asset who was tasked with directing a network of criminal associates to further Iran's assassination plots against its targets, including President-elect Donald Trump, according to Attorney General Merrick Garland."
