An American tourist, 60, was discovered dead at a 5-star hotel in Ireland that is popular among celebrities.

An American tourist, aged 60, was brutally murdered at a luxurious hotel in Ireland, according to police reports.

An American citizen was discovered unconscious in his hotel room at Ballyfin Demesne, a luxurious hotel in Laois, Ireland, on Tuesday, according to a statement from Ireland's national police and security service, Garda Síochána.

The victim was later pronounced dead by police.

Police in Ireland arrested and detained a 30-year-old man in the assault.

The Irish Times reported that the suspect, who is also an American, traveled with the victim.

An incident room has been set up at Portlaoise Garda Station, and a senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the investigation. Additionally, a family liaison officer will be appointed to support the family of the deceased.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

The five-star Ballyfin Demesne in Ireland has been the luxurious home for celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, who celebrated their honeymoon there in 2014.

Actor George Clooney and his wife, Amal, have also stayed there.

RTE reported that nearby communities were "shocked" to hear about the incident at the distinguished hotel, as stated by local independent councilor James Kelly.

"A lot of staff from the area are shocked by what has happened here," he said. "We didn't expect this to happen this morning."
