A Chicago suspect, who was accused of shooting a Jewish man near a synagogue, was found dead in his cell after hanging himself.
According to the Cook County Sheriff's Office, 22-year-old Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi took his own life by hanging himself in his cell.
An Orthodox Jewish man was shot multiple times by an illegal migrant who was attempting to enter a Chicago Synagogue. The migrant was later found dead in his jail cell by alleged suicide.
On Saturday, Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi, 22, took his own life by hanging himself in his cell, as per the Cook County Sheriff's Office, according to Fox 32.
The sheriff's office stated that there was no indication of suicide risk before the incident.
On Saturday at 3:30 p.m., Cook County Jail staff discovered Abdallahi, a Mauritanian national, during a routine security check.
Abdallahi was found unresponsive and staff tried to save his life. He was then transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was declared dead.
The sheriff's office said there was no indication of foul play.
An autopsy is being performed by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office to ascertain the cause and manner of his demise.
A man named Abdallahi was arrested for injuring a 39-year-old Orthodox Jew who was wearing a kippah on October 26th near the 6800 block of North Washtenaw Avenue while on his way to a synagogue.
The man was shot in the shoulder and then taken to a hospital for treatment. He was later discharged.
Abdallahi allegedly opened fire on first responders who arrived to assist the victim, prompting Chicago Police to return fire and critically injure him. He was later arrested and hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds. No first responders were injured in the incident.
Abdallahi was accused of several offenses, including terrorism, hate crimes, six counts of attempted first-degree murder, and seven counts of aggravated firearm discharge towards police or firefighters.
