Israeli ambassador accused UN official of being a "terror sympathizing antisemitite," prompting calls for her dismissal.
Official accused of spreading Hamas talking points should not hold job, says US.
An official for the United Nations is facing criticism over allegations of antisemitism after criticizing Israel for its successful rescue of hostages in the Gaza Strip.
Israel's outgoing ambassador to the U.N., Gilad Erdan, stated on Planet Chronicle Digital that Francesca Albanese is a terror sympathizing antisemitite whose goal at the U.N. is to destroy the State of Israel. He added that he is not surprised that the secretary-general, who is motivated by hatred for Israel, is not taking any action against her justification of terror against Israelis.
"Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of U.N. Watch, told Planet Chronicle Digital that enough is enough. Francesca Albanese must be removed from her position immediately. For too long, Albanese has used her U.N. mandate to spread propaganda for Hamas. She is the first U.N. special rapporteur to be condemned by France, Germany, and the U.S. for antisemitism."
Francesca Albanese's actions must be condemned strongly, and the U.S. and other democracies should take action to remove her from power. This can be achieved through the adoption of a resolution by the Human Rights Council. Until then, they must strongly condemn her for spreading antisemitism and engaging in illegal political activities.
In a June 8 post on X, Albanese stated that Israel's rescue mission was a form of "humanitarian camouflage" and that the country had used hostages to justify the killing, injuring, maiming, starving, and traumatizing of Palestinians in Gaza. He also noted that Israel had intensified violence against Palestinians in the rest of the occupied territory and Israel, and that the country could have freed all hostages, alive and intact, eight months ago during the first ceasefire and hostage exchange. Albanese considered this action to be genocidal intent turned into action, and made it clear.
Alex Gandler, a spokesperson for Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, wrote on X about Albanese: "Your unwavering support of Hamas and Palestinian civilian kidnappers of civilians is truly a piece of grotesque art. Wrong side of history, Lady."
In November, Planet Chronicle Digital reported that Albanese stated that Israel has no right to defend itself against Hamas.
The U.S. State Department spokesperson opposed the mandate of the special rapporteur on X and criticized the individual's history of incendiary comments. The department also believes the special rapporteur's allegations of genocide are unfounded.
The U.N. Secretary-General's spokesman deflected press inquiries about Albanese to the Human Rights Council, stating that Guterres denies any anti-Israel bias and supports both Israel and Hamas equally.
The secretary-general cannot appoint or relieve from duties the independent rapporteurs of our human rights system, who report to the Human Rights Council. Please direct your questions to the HRC members.
The United Nations Division for Palestinian Rights' NGO Action News published a newsletter in April that contained instructions on how to protest against Israel in the U.S. on tax day, as reported by Planet Chronicle Digital.
The U.N. has been criticized by veteran watchdog organizations for its lack of accountability regarding its reported antisemitism problem. Meanwhile, the U.S. and the EU have designated Hamas as a foreign terrorist organization, while the U.N. has not.
The HRC spokesman, Pascal Sim, stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that the views of the UNHRC are conveyed through the resolutions it adopts during its sessions. The special rapporteur is an independent expert appointed by the UNHRC with a mandate to investigate human rights violations in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 and report her findings to the Council and publicly.
The Human Rights Council spokeswoman forwarded inquiries to the special rapporteur and requested that you contact her.
Despite multiple press queries sent through United Nations spokespeople and her Georgetown University email address, Albanese has not yet responded to Planet Chronicle Digital's requests.
