IDF announces successful takedown of 9 militants during major West Bank counterterror operation
A hostage was rescued in Gaza on Tuesday, leading to a West Bank operation.
This week, the Israeli military conducted a significant operation in the West Bank, resulting in the deaths of nine militants, as announced by Israel Defense Forces on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, a significant number of IDF forces entered Jenin, with Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani confirming that all nine people killed in the operation were militants. Three of the fatalities occurred in an airstrike on Tulkarem, while four others were killed in an airstrike in Al-Faraa.
The final two were killed by Israeli soldiers.
Israel Katz, the Israeli Foreign Minister, stated on social media that the purpose of the operation was to disrupt Iranian "terrorist infrastructure" in the West Bank.
""As we handle the threat, we must also handle the terrorist infrastructure in Gaza, including evacuating Palestinian residents and taking any necessary steps, because this is a war and we must win it," Katz wrote."
On Wednesday, the West Bank operation took place, following the successful rescue of an Israeli hostage by Hamas in Gaza on Tuesday.
Yoav Gallant, the Israeli Minister of Defense, announced that Qaid Farhan Alkadi, who was held hostage in Gaza, was rescued by the IDF and ISA and brought to his family in Israel. This operation was a daring and courageous activity conducted by the IDF deep inside the Gaza strip.
"The IDF's actions are part of a series that bring us closer to achieving the goals of this war," Gallant stated. "I would like to reiterate and emphasize: Israel is committed to taking advantage of every opportunity to return the hostages home to Israel."
A mixed group of Israeli combatants, including members of the 401st Brigade, 162nd Division, and Shayetet 13, reportedly rescued Qaid Farhan Alkadi from Rahat.
The rescue was aided by members of the engineering combat spec-ops unit Yahalom and intelligence operatives from the Israel Security Agency.
Alkadi, 52, has been held in the Gaza Strip for nearly a year. No additional information is being released about the rescue operation, "in order to ensure the safety of our hostages, the security of our troops, and national security."
