The Islamic State group in western Iraq suffered a significant loss with the demise of 15 of its members following a joint operation by American and Iraqi forces, as announced by the U.S. military.
On Friday, CENTCOM announced that on Thursday, Aug. 29, a joint US-Iraqi operation resulted in the death of 15 ISIS operatives.
The agency announced that the operatives were equipped with a variety of weapons, including grenades and explosive "suicide" belts.
The U.S. military noted that there were no civilian causalities from the operation.
"The threat of ISIS to the region, our allies, and our homeland remains unchanged. US CENTCOM, along with our coalition and Iraqi partners, will continue to relentlessly pursue these terrorists," they stated.
A week after U.S. forces killed a senior leader of an Al-Qaeda-affiliated militant group in Syria, there was a raid on Thursday.
Abu Abdul Makki, a senior leader in the group Horas al-Din, or "Guardians of Religion," was killed in a "kinetic strike." The agency stated that Makki was "in charge of coordinating terrorist activities from Syria."
Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM commander, reaffirmed the organization's dedication to eradicating terrorists who endanger the US, its allies, partners, and regional stability in a statement.
