Dozens of officials were reportedly executed by North Korea's Kim Jong Un following the deadly floods.
Public officials who neglected disaster prevention were blamed by Kim Jong Un for the "unavoidable casualty."
According to a new report from South Korea, at least 30 government officials may have been executed by North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un following the summer floods that resulted in thousands of deaths.
Last month, between 20 and 30 individuals were sentenced to death by North Korean authorities for their inability to prevent the devastating floods.
Late last month, 20 to 30 cadres were executed in the flood-stricken area, according to an official who spoke to the outlet.
The North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Kim ordered officials to be strictly punished after catastrophic floods hit the Chagang Province, near the border with China, in July.
In late July, heavy rains caused flooding in the northwestern city of Sinuiju and the neighboring town of Uiju, leaving more than 4,000 homes and various public buildings, structures, roads, and railways submerged.
Kim accused public officials of neglecting disaster prevention, resulting in "an unallowable casualty."
China, Russia, and South Korea have been rejected by the North when they offered aid, despite tensions with the latter remaining at their peak.
In early August, Kim embarked on a two-day tour of Uiju to meet flood victims and discuss recovery efforts. During his visit, Kim was quoted by KCNA as accusing the South of exaggerating the extent of the damage from the floods, calling it a "smear campaign" and a "grave provocation" against his government.
