5 people, including Israeli-American hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin, have been confirmed dead.
During Hamas' Oct. 7 attack, a 23-year-old man named Hersh Goldberg-Polin was abducted at a music festival in southern Israel.
Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an Israeli-American hostage, has been confirmed dead, his family announced early Sunday.
At a music festival in southern Israel, Goldberg-Polin, 23, was abducted during Hamas' Oct. 7 attack against the Jewish State. He lost part of his left arm to a grenade in the attack.
Five hostages, including his body, were found dead in the tunnels under Rafah on Saturday, after being killed by Hamas.
He immigrated to Israel with his family in 2008 at the age of seven, according to his family's statement. He is a dual U.S.-Israeli citizen and leaves behind his parents, Jon Polin and Rachel Goldberg, and his two sisters.
The Biden administration met with Goldberg-Polin's family and friends who traveled the world to demand his release.
President Biden expressed his "devastation and outrage" upon hearing about the demise of Goldberg-Polin.
""Hamas leaders will pay for their crimes, and we will continue to work tirelessly to secure the release of the remaining hostages," he stated."
As the Democratic nominee for president, Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her condolences to the loved ones of Goldberg-Polin, who have lost their loved one.
"Hamas is a terrorist organization that has committed heinous crimes, including the murder of 1,200 people and sexual violence, taking of hostages, and these recent murders. Harris strongly condemns Hamas' continued brutality and calls on the entire world to do the same."
""Hamas poses a threat to Israel and American citizens in Israel, and the Palestinian people have suffered under Hamas' rule for nearly two decades," she added."
On Saturday, the other bodies recovered were Carmel Gat, Eden Yerushalmi, Alexander Lobanov, Almog Sarusi, and Master Sergeant Ori Danino.
The six victims were shot by their captors shortly before Israeli Defense Forces arrived, according to the IDF. Israeli President Isaac Herzog expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and apologized for not being able to bring them home safely.
"Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, IDF Spokesperson, announced that the families of the missing individuals were informed that their loved ones had been found dead by IDF troops in an underground tunnel in Rafah. According to the initial assessment, the victims were brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists before the IDF troops arrived."
