At the border, a Canadian man admits to four counts of child molestation.
In April 2023, a 24-year-old man named Royce Eric-Bernard Rivard was held at a US port of entry in Michigan after arriving from Canada.
Last year, a Canadian man was caught crossing the U.S. border and later pleaded guilty to molesting a teen in Atlanta.
On Monday, Royce Eric-Bernard Rivard, 24, pleaded guilty to five counts of child molestation and one count of enticing a child for indecent purposes, according to FOX5 Atlanta.
In April 2023, a month after Rivard disclosed abuse to her parents, she was held at a U.S. port of entry from Canada into Michigan.
"We commend the victim's bravery in speaking out about her abuser," said Douglas County District Attorney Dalia Racine in a statement. "Far too often, these incidents remain unreported, leaving victims to endure in silence. We thank our law enforcement partners and our team for their unwavering support of this victim in court."
According to the report, the 14-year-old victim revealed that she met Rivard on social media prior to his journey from Canada to Atlanta in the summer of 2022, where he intended to meet her.
The teen was groomed by Rivard, who used her fascination with celebrities to gain her trust. Later, he rented an Airbnb in Douglas County and molested her, according to the report.
When the girl attempted to sever ties with Rivard, he threatened to reveal false information about her family and disclosed the locations of her family members.
In February 2023, the teen informed her parents about something, prompting them to contact the police for assistance. As a result, Rivard was detained in April.
On Monday, Rivard was given a 60-year prison sentence after pleading guilty.
