Zelenskyy dismisses Trump's claim that he doesn't know how to end Russia's war with Ukraine.
Both Zelenskyy and Trump reportedly left their meeting in a positive mood, stating that their discussion had been productive.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy is downplaying past disagreements with Donald Trump after their meeting in New York City.
On Friday, Zelenskyy met with Trump at Trump Tower and later had a conversation with Griff Jenkins of Planet Chronicle.
"Zelenskyy explained to Jenkins that Ukraine must remain strong in any future negotiations, regardless of the situation. He stated this when asked about his meeting with Trump. He also mentioned his conversations with Biden, Harris, Trump, and the US Congress."
Zelenskyy was questioned by Jenkins regarding his remarks in a New Yorker article where he stated that he believes Trump lacks the knowledge to end the war, despite his belief that he knows how to do so. Additionally, Jenkins inquired if Trump had said anything to alter Zelenskyy's perspective.
"No, I said that I believe we understand much better than everyone, including Donald Trump, what's happening in Ukraine and how to stop it. It's difficult to comprehend," Zelenskyy replied.
The Ukrainian president stated that his country has undergone a significant transformation since the initial invasion in 2022.
"Before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, two different countries existed. Therefore, without this experience, it is difficult to comprehend how to stop Russian President Vladimir Putin. I wanted to convey this message to the president and emphasize the cost of the tragic invasion."
During their meeting, Trump stated that he had a "good relationship" with both Zelenskyy and Putin. In response, Zelenskyy expressed his hope that the U.S. maintains a better relationship with Ukraine than with Russia.
Did Trump's comment about maintaining a good relationship with Putin worry the Ukrainian president, as asked by Jenkins?
Zelenskyy stated that he was not overly concerned about Trump's past relations with him, as he acknowledged that Trump had maintained relationships with many countries and UN leaders during his presidency.
In the exclusive interview, Zelenskyy expressed his disappointment that Putin did not receive a response from the rest of the world when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014 and annexed Crimea.
"Zelenskyy stated that since nobody kicked him, he understood that he could occupy the position and move forward. He prepared and executed his plan to occupy new territories in Ukraine."
