Johnson condemns Biden's last-minute pardons as 'shocking' and 'disgusting'.
Biden granted clemency to his relatives just before Trump's inauguration on Monday.
Former President Joe Biden's last-minute pardons of his family members were "shocking" and "disgusting," according to House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Johnson stated during the House Republican leadership's weekly press conference on Wednesday that it was astonishing to see President Biden pardon his family for more than a decade of any nonviolent offenses on his way out.
Johnson stated that he believed the current situation was not what had been anticipated, and he urged him to check the tape. Four years ago, when it was suggested that President Trump might do something similar, they were in a state of panic. Joe Biden, Adam Schiff, and Chuck Schumer all said it was unthinkable and unethical. Now, they are supporting it.
"We find it repulsive. It likely confirms our suspicions. If they weren't the Biden crime family, why would they need pardons? That's what we're asking. Johnson also stated, 'This will receive a lot of attention, and it's only right that we examine it closely.'"
Biden pardoned his siblings just minutes before leaving office on Monday.
The White House announced that James Biden, Sara Jones Biden, Valerie Biden Owens, John Owens, and Francis Biden have been granted a pardon by the president. The president stated that his family may face politically motivated investigations following his departure from office.
In a statement, Biden expressed his belief in the rule of law and his optimism that the strength of our legal institutions would ultimately triumph over politics. However, he also pointed out that baseless and politically motivated investigations can cause significant harm to the lives, safety, and financial security of targeted individuals and their families.
Biden stated that even if individuals are innocent and will eventually be cleared, being investigated or prosecuted can permanently harm their reputations and finances.
The pardons have been widely criticized, with Jason Miller, a senior adviser to the Trump-Vance transition team, describing them to Planet Chronicle as "nonsense."
"I believed that was nonsense when I thought Joe Biden would do that," he stated.
Kate Bedingfield, the former communications director of the Biden White House, also described the move as disappointing.
On Monday morning, Biden granted pre-emptive pardons to Dr. Anthony Fauci, Gen. Mark Milley, and individuals linked to the House select committee investigation into January 6.
Over 1,500 individuals charged with crimes related to the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol have been released by President Donald Trump since taking office.
Johnson stated on Wednesday that the President had made a decision regarding the pardons.
