The DOGE subcommittee now includes a Democrat who aims for 'good government'.
The House Oversight Subcommittee for DOGE has been named by Democrats, who have vowed to "fight back" against any cuts to essential federal programs.
The House Oversight Subcommittee for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has been named by Democrats, who vow to "fight back" against any cuts to essential federal programs.
The newly established agency, a central pledge of President Donald Trump's reelection campaign, is mandated to reduce government waste and enhance transparency in government expenditures. It was established through an executive order on Monday.
On X Tuesday, Rep. Melanie Stansbury, D-N.M., announced that she will be the ranking member.
Stansbury will be joined by Rep. Stephen Lynch, D-Mass., Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., Rep. Greg Casar, D-Texas, and Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, as well as Eleanor Holmes Norton, a non-voting congressional delegate for Washington, D.C., according to Politico. Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., the ranking member of the full Oversight and Government Reform Committee, will be allowed to sit on the subcommittee in an ex officio capacity, the outlet reports.
Stansbury pledged to employ all available resources to collaborate with members of different political parties and combat policies that are detrimental to American citizens.
If DOGE is used to enhance government efficiency and improve federal agencies, Democrats are fully committed to it. However, if it becomes a tool for political theater to benefit President Trump and his wealthy allies, they will fight back.
"Stansbury stated that she knows what good government looks like and is not afraid to fight for it. Additionally, she is prepared to protect the vital programs, services, and employees that keep communities safe and the economy running."
Garcia stated that he will utilize his role on the oversight subcommittee to combat the House GOP's plans to undermine the federal workforce. He asserted that Republicans intend to reduce essential federal programs, such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, while providing tax breaks to billionaires and wealthy corporations.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., chair of the subcommittee, was targeted by him with his aim.
Garcia stated that Marjorie Taylor Greene and her extremist allies are pushing a radical agenda in the subcommittee, which includes eliminating the Department of Education and programs for seniors and veterans.
"On day one, we will be prepared to resist any attempts to reduce our social safety net, protect working families and the middle class."
On Tuesday, Greene unveiled the Republican representatives chosen to serve on the subcommittee: Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Texas; Rep. William Timmons, S.C.; Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas; Rep. Brian Jack, R-Ga.; Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn.; Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo.; and Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Texas.
She stated that they bring a wealth of experience and are committed to delivering a more efficient, effective, and accountable federal government.
Greene stated that the government will work together to eliminate waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in federal agencies, ensuring efficient and transparent operations for the American people.
The newly created department has lost former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
According to a Planet Chronicle source, Ramaswamy, who was appointed by Trump in November to lead DOGE, is planning to launch a Republican campaign for Ohio governor early next week.
GOP Gov. Mike DeWine of Ohio is term-limited and cannot run for elected office again in 2026.
Planet Chronicle' Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.
