VP Harris's handling of the election certification process following her loss is "particularly commendable," according to Pence.
The process has seen a 'revival of order and decorum', as Pence stated.
Vice President Mike Pence praised Vice President Kamala Harris's handling of the 2024 presidential election certification, despite losing to President-elect Donald Trump.
"Today, our democracy was marked by a peaceful transfer of power as members of both parties in the House and Senate, along with the vice president, certified the election of our new president and vice president without any controversy or objection," Pence declared Monday in a post on X.
Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance were congratulated by him, and he celebrated the "restoration of order and civility" during the certification process.
Pence praised the members of the House, Senate, and Vice President who fulfilled their obligations under the US Constitution, particularly commending Vice President Harris for presiding over the certification of a presidential election that she lost.
In 2021, during a joint session of Congress, then-Vice President Pence presided over the certification of the 2020 presidential election results, which were won by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. However, the session was temporarily interrupted due to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
In 2024, Trump did not receive Pence's endorsement, as Pence had previously dropped his own GOP presidential primary bid in 2023.
In 2001, the last time a sitting vice president who lost a presidential bid presided over the certification of their own presidential election loss was when outgoing Democratic Vice President Al Gore lost to Republican George W. Bush in the 2000 White House contest.
Last week, House Speaker Mike Johnson was congratulated by Vice President Mike Pence after winning the speakership again.
Pence declared on Twitter, "Well Deserved! Our prayers are with you as you take the gavel once again to lead the Peoples House!"
