'Urgent effort': Senators receive affidavit containing accusations about Hegseth's past marriage.
Pete Hegseth has unequivocally rejected the accusations.
The Armed Services Committee's Democratic senators are currently scrutinizing an affidavit that accuses Pete Hegseth, the nominee for Secretary of Defense, of making his second wife feel threatened.
Danielle Hegseth, the former sister-in-law of Pete Hegseth, has provided an affidavit to Planet Chronicle alleging that Hegseth has an alcohol abuse problem and made his ex-wife, Samantha, fear for her safety. Danielle Hegseth was married to Pete Hegseth's brother, and she is not Samantha's sister.
The committee has received the affidavit and is currently examining it.
According to Tim Parlatore, Sam Hegseth's lawyer, Sam has never alleged any abuse and has signed court documents acknowledging that there was no abuse. Recently, she reaffirmed this during her FBI interview. Danielle Dietrich, an anti-Trump, far-left Democrat who is divorced from Mr. Hegseth's brother and never got along with the Hegseth family, has made belated claims against Sam. After an acrimonious divorce, Ms. Dietrich has had an ax to grind against the entire Hegseth family. Ms. Dietrich admits that she saw nothing but is now falsely accusing Sam of lying to both the Court and the FBI because of private, undocumented statements that she allegedly made 10 years ago.
In the document, Danielle Hegseth recounted an anecdote about Samantha, who once concealed herself in a closet to avoid her spouse.
Danielle Hegseth stated that she did not observe any form of physical or sexual abuse inflicted by Pete on Samantha.
The affidavit contained further details about Hegseth's alleged excessive drinking, including specific instances such as a trip to a strip club.
Danielle Hegseth expressed her view that her former brother-in-law is unsuitable to hold the position of Secretary of Defense.
The Ranking Member of the committee, Jack Reed, D-R.I., stated in a statement, "I have been concerned that the background check process for Mr. Hegseth has been inadequate. The alleged pattern of abuse and misconduct by Mr. Hegseth is disturbing. This behavior would disqualify any servicemember from holding any leadership position in the military, much less being confirmed as the Secretary of Defense."
Samantha Hegseth refutes any physical abuse allegations in a statement first reported by NBC News. "I can confirm that there was no physical abuse in my marriage. I have already stated that I will not speak about my marriage to Pete, and I kindly request that you respect my decision," she reportedly said.
Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., stated to reporters that the revelations about Mr. Hegseth's behavior and lifestyle only confirm what they already knew about his opinions towards women.
She stated that she would allow the Republicans to make their own statement, but she believed it only confirmed that he was completely unqualified for the job due to his disposition, demeanor, and issues with sexual abuse and financial mismanagement.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., stated to reporters that there is a significant amount of information in the affidavit, and any portion of it would disqualify a candidate from leading our military.
The allegations may not persuade all Republicans on the committee.
Sen. Tim Sheehy, R-Mont., who is also a committee member, wrote that the allegations against Pete Hegseth are a desperate, last-minute attempt by Democrats and the media to smear his nomination. Despite his ex-wife stating the claims are false, the media disregards this because it harms a Republican. People should not be deceived by this.
