Tulsi Gabbard faces criticism from Democrats after being named Trump's pick for DNI.
Rep. Jared Moskowitz criticized the selection of Gabbard for DNI as "incredibly reckless."
Some Democratic lawmakers criticized former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard following President-elect Donald Trump's decision to appoint her as Director of National Intelligence, a high-ranking cabinet position.
Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., expressed her "appal" at the appointment of Gabbard.
Spanberger claimed in a post on X that she is not only ill-prepared and unqualified, but also traffics in conspiracy theories and is friendly with dictators such as Bashar-al Assad and Vladimir Putin.
Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., criticized the appointment of Tulsi Gabbard as DNI, stating on Twitter that it was "incredibly reckless" and put "our security at risk" because of her known sympathies for foreign adversaries.
Rep. Seth Magaziner, D-R.I., implied that Gabbard's appointment as DNI could jeopardize national security.
Magaziner stated that Tulsi Gabbard's close ties to dangerous adversaries such as Bashar al-Assad of Syria and Vladimir Putin of Russia make her an untrustworthy guardian of our nation's most closely held secrets.
The highest-ranking intelligence official in the federal government would have access to sensitive information, including our nation's nuclear weapons program and the location and activities of our military service members, and we cannot risk this information falling into the hands of our adversaries, he stated.
From 2013 to 2021, Gabbard represented the Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives. In 2019, she ran for president but later dropped out and supported Joe Biden.
The former lawmaker declared her support for Trump in the 2024 election and announced her membership in the Republican Party.
She has been a soldier for over 21 years and currently serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve, as she stated in a Veterans Day post this week.
To truly honor our veterans every day, we must ensure that our military personnel are only deployed into dangerous situations as a last resort after all diplomatic options have been exhausted. Additionally, we must provide adequate support and care for our veterans and their families upon their return home.
Planet Chronicle Digital attempted to reach out to Gabbard for comment on Thursday.
