Trump selects Ron Johnson, former El Salvador ambassador, as his pick for Mexico envoy.
Johnson was previously Trump's ambassador to El Salvador during his first term.
President-elect Trump has appointed Ronald Johnson, the former U.S. ambassador to El Salvador, to be the ambassador to Mexico in his upcoming administration.
Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social network, like many of his selections.
"Ron will collaborate closely with Marco Rubio, our outstanding Secretary of State nominee, to advance our country's security and prosperity through robust America First foreign policies," he stated.
In his first term, Ron served as the ambassador to El Salvador and worked diligently with Salvadoran authorities and our team to decrease violent crime and illegal migration to unprecedented lows.
A former CIA official and U.S. Army Green Beret, Johnson, will hold a high-profile diplomatic post in the Trump administration.
Trump has threatened to impose steep tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China if they don't take action to prevent the flow of illegal immigrants and drugs across their respective borders.
Trump announced that Johnson would aid in stopping "migrant crime," halting the illegal influx of Fentanyl and other hazardous drugs into the country, and making America safe once more.
