Trump's viral "Gulf of America" name-change prompts a Texas-sized suggestion: Gulf of Buc-ee's
Some positive response was generated online among the Buc-ee's faithful after Rep Dan Crenshaw's idea was shared.
A Texas congressman proposed a compromise in the name of the Gulf of Mexico after President-elect Donald Trump suggested changing it to the "Gulf of America."
"Compromise reached," Republican Rep. Dan Crenshaw posted as a caption to a map showing the Gulf of Mexico’s label replaced with the emblem of a grinning Buc-ee the Beaver in his trademark red ball cap.
Someone commented enthusiastically on his post, "The Gulf of Buc-ee's!" which gained traction on social media.
The interstate-side gas station/meal-stop/country-store/convenience behemoth in Lake Jackson, Texas has a cult-like following in the South, as seen by the reaction to Crenshaw and others suggesting expansion.
Buc-ee's is renowned for its 100-plus gas pumps that offer loss-leader prices, drawing in large crowds. It has been likened to a 7-Eleven "on steroids" and an amusement park without the rides.
Visitors can regularly hear cooks calling out "Fre-e-esh brisket on the board" as they continuously restock Texas BBQ from a central station in the store, while cheeky billboards advertise their massive, spotless bathrooms for miles.
The stores are renowned for their mascot's cherished "Beaver Nuggets" treats, handmade fudge, extensive selection of jerky; travelers require camp chairs, apparel, and meat grills.
On Tuesday, Trump announced that he planned to rename the Gulf to the "suitable" and "attractive" "Gulf of America."
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum posted an image of herself in front of an 18th century map showing a large portion of the United States as "Mexican America" and jokingly suggested that the name should be reverted.
The red hat-bedecked beaver in Crenshaw's "Gulf of Buc-ee's" idea received widespread support on social media.
"I’d support that," one X user wrote.
The Gulf of Buc’ees is my top choice for a brisket sandwich and clean bathrooms every 3 hours, and I might even pick up some extra items like an iron skillet, crawfish boiler, or Buc-ees pajamas while I'm there.
Another commenter remarked that they had not yet visited a Buc-ees but joked, "I hope to one day be counted among the blessed who have passed through the Brisket Gates. Gulf of Buc-ee's -- I can get behind that."
