Trump's election certification process was uneventful, according to Dem lawmakers: "We still have a democracy."
President-elect Trump's 2024 election results were certified by Congress.
Democratic lawmakers emphasized the peaceful transfer of power after the 2024 election confirmation for President-elect Trump, despite the chaos caused by protesters storming the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
On Monday, lawmakers convened in Washington, D.C., for a joint session to validate the Electoral College votes for Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance. Vice President Kamala Harris presided over the proceedings, despite her own loss to Trump in the presidential election in November.
As they exited the ratification, Democratic lawmakers recounted a "no-drama" ceremony in contrast to President Biden's certification four years ago, speaking with Planet Chronicle Digital.
Rep. Seth Magaziner, D-R.I., stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that we still have a democracy if we can maintain it.
Rep. Jesús Garcia of Illinois also commented on the peaceful transition of power this year.
""No drama, no contesting, and no false contestation of results," Garcia stated."
"Rep. John Mannion, D-N.Y., stated that the tradition is a significant aspect of the country's history and should be continued. He added that it is an essential part of his job and expressed his satisfaction with being able to participate in it today."
Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., expressed his view to Fox that "this is a great time for American democracy, and we're proud of the vice president for presiding over it."
Democratic Rep. Chris Deluzio of Pennsylvania stated, "We fulfilled our obligation."
Harris also spoke to reporters following the certification.
"Today, America's democracy stood, as it should be the norm for our democracy to have a peaceful transfer of power."
In two weeks, on Monday, Jan. 20, Trump's inauguration will occur.
