Over 50 national security officials had their security clearances revoked by President Donald Trump after they claimed that Hunter Biden's laptop exhibited "typical features of a Russian disinformation campaign."

In 2020, 51 former national security officials published a public letter stating that despite the laptop lacking "any evidence of Russian involvement," it appeared to be part of a "Russian information operation."

After the New York Post published emails revealing that Hunter Biden arranged for Joe Biden to meet with a top executive at Ukrainian energy company Burisma, months before pressuring Ukrainian officials to remove a prosecutor investigating the company.

The list includes former directors of National Intelligence James Clapper Jr., former directors of the Central Intelligence Agency Michael Hayden, John Brennan, former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, and former National Security Advisor John Bolton.

According to a report by Planet Chronicle Digital, the Department of Justice's federal investigators were aware that Hunter Biden's laptop was not tampered with and contained trustworthy evidence.

Officials who have been accused of leaking classified information have had their security clearances suggested to be withdrawn by Republican lawmakers, including Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

On Inauguration Day, Trump issued an order that was one of over 200 executive orders, similar to directives such as withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement, which was initiated by the Obama administration in 2015.

During his first term, Trump withdrew the U.S. from the agreement in 2020.
