Trump nominees meet with Fetterman, who promises to provide an informed opinion and an open mind for confirmation votes.
Fetterman stated, "It's not controversial, it's my duty."
Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., believes it is his obligation to meet with President-elect Donald Trump's nominees and that his decision to confirm the candidates will be based on an unbiased and well-informed perspective.
Fetterman stated in a post on X that he believes it is appropriate and the responsibility of a U.S. Senator to have conversations with President-elect Trump's nominees. He met with Elise Stefanik and Pete Hegseth, and recently wrapped up a meeting with Tulsi Gabbard. He is looking forward to his upcoming meetings with other nominees.
"After having a conversation with them, my votes will be based on an open-minded and informed opinion. This is not a controversial statement; it is my duty," he stated.
Trump has appointed Elise Stefanik, Hegseth, and Tulsi Gabbard to key positions in his administration.
It is uncertain whether Fetterman will ultimately support Hegseth and Gabbard for confirmation, despite previously stating his intention to back Stefanik.
A spokesperson for the senator did not provide any additional insight into Fetterman's voting plans regarding Hegseth and Gabbard when Planet Chronicle Digital reached out for comment.
Fetterman has remained steadfast in his unwavering support for Israel following the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack on the U.S. ally.
@EliseStefanik was always a difficult YES for Fetterman, but he found it a pleasure to converse with her. Fetterman supports defunding UNRWA due to its documented Hamas infiltration and eagerly anticipates holding the @UN accountable for its endemic antisemitism and overtly anti-Israel views.
He has also vowed to back Sen. Marco Rubio's appointment as secretary of state.
"As expected, the other team's selection will have different political views than mine," Fetterman stated in a post on X last month. "However, my colleague @SenMarcoRubio is a strong candidate and I am excited to support his confirmation."
