Trump names North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum as Secretary of the Department of the Interior.
On Thursday, the president-elect revealed the news at Mar-a-Lago.
On Thursday night, President-elect Trump announced that North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum will head the Department of the Interior.
"Trump announced that he will make a formal announcement about the head of the Department of Interior on Friday."
"We're going to eliminate waste, fraud, and inefficiency in regulation, clean out corrupt and broken bureaucracies, and put an end to child sexual mutilation. It's time."
In June 2023, a two-term governor and former multi-millionaire software company CEO, Burgum, announced his White House bid.
Bergum emphasized energy and natural resources as a crucial aspect of his GOP nomination campaign.
Burgum, who made the stage at the first two GOP presidential debates, failed to qualify for the third showdown in autumn of last year and dropped out of the White House race in December. A month later, he appeared in Iowa with Trump and endorsed the former president for the GOP nomination, days ahead of the first-in-the-nation caucuses.
Trump appointed Burgum as his high-profile surrogate, who campaigned with him and gave media interviews on his behalf.
This past summer, he was being considered as Trump's running mate, but Sen. JD Vance of Ohio was ultimately chosen as the Republican Party's vice presidential nominee.
