Trump intensifies plans to buy Greenland after resident complains: "Denmark is taking advantage of us"
Greenlanders are 'MAGA,' according to Trump.
On Monday, President-elect Trump increased his demands for the U.S. to claim Greenland through a humorous social media post.
On Tuesday, Donald Trump Jr. will travel to Greenland in a personal capacity and not meet with government officials.
President-elect Trump stated in a Truth Social post that he was "hearing that the people of Greenland are 'MAGA'." He also shared a video that supposedly shows a Greenlander requesting the U.S. to purchase his country.
In the video, a woman asks the man, "What would you say to Trump if you could tell him anything?"
"Purchase Greenland," the man in the MAGA hat responded.
The Greenlander stated that he "loved Americans" and desired independence from the Danish government.
"We no longer want to be governed by Denmark, as we are being exploited annually for our minerals in Greenland, despite being the wealthiest nation in the world. We are being used excessively by Denmark."
Trump announced that he intends to visit Greenland in the near future and that his son, Donald Trump Jr., will be present in the country. The president-elect stated that he plans to explore some of the island's "most stunning regions and attractions."
"Trump wrote on Monday that Greenland is an incredible place and its people will greatly benefit if it becomes part of our nation. He vowed to protect and cherish it from the outside world and encouraged making Greenland great again."
Two weeks ago, Trump initially drew attention with his statement about U.S. ownership of Greenland. Now, he has posted again about the issue.
The United States of America believes that the ownership and control of Greenland are crucial for national security and freedom worldwide.
Greenland's Prime Minister, Múte Egede, expressed interest in his country gaining independence from Denmark.
"Egede emphasized the importance of citizens working together to create new steps in the upcoming election period, based on the foundations already established. He urged the public to take action and shape their future, including choosing their cooperating partners and trading partners."
For several years, Trump has contemplated acquiring Greenland, and in 2019, he publicly stated that it could be a significant real estate transaction.
"Denmark is losing almost $700 million a year due to carrying a lot of things, which is hurting them badly. However, strategically for the United States, it would be nice if they carried it at great loss. As a big ally of Denmark, we help and protect them."
In a "Planet Chronicle Sunday" interview, then-White House chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow confirmed that President Trump's remarks were genuine.
At that time, Kudlow stated that Greenland is a valuable strategic location due to its minerals.
"The president, who has experience in real estate, wants to examine the outcome."
Planet Chronicle' Nick Givas and Alexandra Koch contributed to this report.
