Trump declines to invite two prominent Republicans to join his administration.
In the Nov. 5 election, both Pompeo and Haley supported Trump.
On Saturday, President-elect Donald Trump declared via a social media post that he would not be inviting two former administration members to the White House.
Two strong candidates for Trump's new Cabinet were mentioned in the post: Nikki Haley, who served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
The president-elect announced on Truth Social that he will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to join the Trump Administration, which is currently being formed.
Although the announcement was tough, Trump stated that he relished collaborating with them.
"I thoroughly enjoyed and valued my previous work with them, and I would like to express my gratitude for their contributions to our nation," he concluded. "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
Earlier this year, Haley ran against Trump in the Republican primary. In the past, she has been both publicly supportive and critical of the president-elect. Last week, she wrote a Wall Street Journal op-ed in support of his presidential campaign.
"Haley wrote that she does not completely agree with Mr. Trump, but she mostly agrees with him, while she disagrees with Ms. Harris almost entirely. This makes her decision an easy one."
Pompeo, though not one of Trump's most vocal supporters, has previously shown support for the president-elect. In an open letter with over 400 signatories, including Gold Star families and national security officials, Pompeo endorsed Trump for president.
"The letter, written in October, stated that the United States is closer to a third world war than ever before under the Biden-Harris Administration. The letter cited multiple escalating wars around the world, an open border that allows terrorists to flood into the American homeland, and malign actors like China operating unabated as evidence of the damage caused by the failed policies of Kamala Harris and Joe Biden."
Haley and Pompeo were contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital for comment, but no immediate response was received.
