Trump declares ambitious crackdown on illegal immigration in inaugural address.
Trump has pledged to execute a unprecedented large-scale expulsion operation.
On Monday, President Trump unveiled several ambitious plans regarding border security and immigration, which could lead to a comprehensive overhaul of U.S. policy. This move is likely to spark opposition from Democrats and immigration advocates in the near future.
Trump's inaugural address detailed his plans to fulfill his campaign pledges to secure the southern border and initiate a unprecedented mass deportation effort.
"Upon taking office, I will proclaim a national emergency at our southern border, stopping all illegal entries immediately. We will then initiate the process of deporting millions of criminal aliens to their countries of origin."
Trump's immigration plans, including deploying the military to the border, ending Biden-era parole policies, restarting border wall construction, and labeling international cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, were previously previewed by Planet Chronicle.
Officials informed reporters that Trump will end birthright citizenship for illegal immigrants, suspend refugee resettlement, and create a fast removal process that does not permit asylum claims.
Officials announced that Trump would issue an order to clarify the 14th Amendment and specify that the federal government will not grant automatic citizenship to the children of undocumented immigrants born in the US.
Trump reiterated many of these promises in his address.
"I will reinstate my Remain in Mexico policy, end the practice of catch-and-release, send troops to the southern border to repel the disastrous invasion of our country, and designate the cartels as foreign terrorist organizations under the orders I signed today," he stated.
"By invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, I will instruct our government to utilize the full and immense power of federal and state law enforcement to eradicate all foreign gangs and criminal networks that are causing devastating crime in the U.S., including our cities and inner cities."
"As commander in chief, my primary duty is to safeguard our nation from threats and attacks," he declared. "I will ensure that we do it with an unprecedented level of effectiveness."
Trump's 2024 campaign focused on combating illegal immigration, including a large-scale deportation operation.
Recent polls indicated that Americans viewed illegal immigration as a significant concern during the 2024 election, and some Democrats in Congress have advocated for legislation mandating the detention of specific illegal immigrants by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
