Trump compares potential VP candidate to young Abraham Lincoln for a surprising reason.
Could Trump's dislike of facial hair hinder Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance's potential selection as his VP?
Donald Trump, the former president, is comparing a potential running mate to a young Abraham Lincoln for an unanticipated reason.
On Wednesday, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee compared the facial hair of Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance to that of Brian Kilmeade of Planet Chronicle when asked about a recent report by The Bulwark that said he found the latter's facial hair distasteful.
"No, I haven't heard that one," Trump replied when asked about the report suggesting Vance's facial hair could hinder his selection as his running mate. "He looks good, he looks like a young Abraham Lincoln."
Vance is reportedly among the top names rumored to be on Trump's shortlist, alongside North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. However, some top GOP strategists view the first-term senator and rising star in the party as the best choice to win over traditional working-class Democrat voters in several battleground states.
Trump has not yet revealed his pick, but during a Monday interview on Planet Chronicle' "Hannity," he stated that he would likely announce the individual "a little before" the upcoming Republican National Convention.
"He reiterated that it could be done during the convention, despite stating that the timing could be "a little complicated.""
On Saturday, Trump will hold a rally near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, close to the Ohio border. It is unclear if Vance will attend.
Vance's team declined to comment for this story.
Planet Chronicle' Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.
