Trump comments on the political unrest in Canada and criticizes 'Justin Trudeau.'
Trump proposed that Canada join the United States as the 51st state.
President-elect Trump commented on the political upheaval in "Canada" following the resignation of the finance minister due to a dispute with Prime Minister Trudeau over how to handle potential U.S. tariffs under the incoming Trump administration.
Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland resigned from her post Monday.
Canada is shocked as its Finance Minister resigns or was fired by Governor Justin Trudeau, according to Trump's Truth Social post, which comes after the former president suggested Canada should become the 51st state in the USA.
"Her behavior was completely toxic and not conducive to making good deals for the unhappy citizens of Canada. She will not be missed."
The resignation of Freeland has sparked doubts about Trudeau's political future, with inflation and immigration being major concerns.
Despite calls for resignation from critics, a no-confidence vote in the government is not imminent.
In response to Trump's threat of imposing 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico, Trudeau visited Mar-a-Lago last month.
The president-elect informed the prime minister that he would impose a 25% tariff on all Canadian goods on his first day back in office if the border issues and trade deficit are not resolved.
Trump questioned Trudeau's claim that imposing tariffs would harm the Canadian economy, saying, "So, your country can't thrive unless it's exploiting the U.S. to the tune of $100 billion?"
Sources told Planet Chronicle that Trudeau and others laughed nervously when Trump proposed that Canada become the 51st state.
He continued, stating that prime minister is a more suitable title, although he could still serve as governor of the 51st state.
According to sources, someone at the table informed Trump that Canada would be a liberal state, which prompted more laughter. Trump proposed that Canada could be divided into two states, one conservative and one liberal.
According to reports, the exchange was met with laughter, but Trump made it clear that he expected changes to occur by January 20th.
The conversation, lasting nearly three hours, touched on various topics. Despite no mention of becoming the 51st state, the Canadian guests described the dinner as "very friendly" and "very positive" by the end.
