Trump campaign attacks Harris as a "San Francisco radical" following CNN interview.
Since becoming the Democratic nominee, Harris stated that Americans are prepared to move on from Trump in a recent media interview.
The Trump-Vance campaign issued a statement Thursday night criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris' first media interview as the Democratic presidential nominee, labeling her a "San Francisco radical" and focusing on parts of her record that were not addressed in the interview.
The campaign stated that "[Harris] said her values 'have not changed' three times. She remains a San Francisco radical."
The Trump-Vance campaign pointed out that CNN's Dana Bash failed to mention Harris' history of supporting "ending cash bail for violent criminals, fundraising for the Minnesota Freedom Fund, which freed rioters," her "vote for tie-breaking vote for American Rescue Plan, which economists say fueled inflation," and her "support for closing immigration detention centers and freeing thousands of criminals into American neighborhoods."
The statement said that Harris spoke for just over 16 minutes but did not address the crime crisis in the nation. She spent only 3 minutes and 25 seconds talking about the economy and 2 minutes and 36 seconds talking about immigration.
During her interview, Harris stated that she believes Americans are prepared to move on from former President Donald Trump.
As the appointed border czar for the Biden administration, she defended her work and claimed that it resulted in several benefits.
As vice president, I was tasked by the president to address the root causes of a problem in a specific region. The work I did resulted in numerous benefits, such as significant investments from American businesses in that area and a decrease in the number of immigrants coming from that region since we began our efforts.
Harris stated that when she looks at the aspirations, goals, and ambitions of the American people, she believes that they are ready for a new direction, one that has been fueled by hope and optimism for generations. However, she lamented that in the past decade, the former president has been pushing an agenda that has diminished the character and strength of the American people, dividing the nation. Harris believes that it is time for the nation to turn the page on this direction.
Bash later had to press for more detail on what she would accomplish on day one of a Harris presidency.
In the Thursday night interview, Harris unveiled her most comprehensive plans, which included a $6,000 child tax credit, similar to what the Trump-Vance campaign had previously announced as a policy plan, as well as a $25,000 tax credit for first-time homeowners.
